Lakewood Prays for San Jose Elementary

Many thanks to Lakewood members, Mark & Suzanne Biery, Mitzie Griffin, and Kurt and Sally Jackson for their participation in the annual Prayer Walk for San Jose Elementary on Sunday, August 23. Led by Pastor Don and new SJES principal, Jasmine Gomez and her husband, Angel, we were able to spend approximately 1 hour praying for this very special school, its students and their families, its faculty and staff and their families and for schools throughout our community.  We also were very happy to welcome one of San Jose’s own faculty members and her family joining us in prayer.  Earlier this summer, we were able to provide masks for teachers who had to be on campus during the summer months.  Thank you, Suzanne Biery, Ellen Cannon, and Nong Rascon for making these much-needed and much-appreciated masks at a time when it was difficult to find them!  You can tell by the smile on Mrs. Smith’s face (see picture below) how happy she was to receive them!

Special note: It was with sadness we learned earlier this summer that Mrs. Paula Smith, principal at SJES for the last five years, was to be transferred to Arlington Elementary, where she began her tenure August 1.  Those who volunteered at SJES will recall her amazing leadership skills, cooperative and faithful spirit and always smiling, welcoming face!  Arlington Elementary is very blessed.   While we were sad to see Mrs. Smith go, we are very blessed that we now have the opportunity to work with Mrs. Gomez who already has demonstrated her exuberance, spirit-filled faith, and love for the school as she and her husband joined us in praying for God’s presence & protection during the 2020-21 school year.

You can help SJES NOW!!!  Mrs. Gomez says the School is in desperate need of the following:

  • Disinfectant wipes
  • Hand Sanitizer
  • Disinfectant spray
  • Child-sized masks (Note: These masks are expensive. Box of 25=$14.94 at Wal-Mart; also available at local retail pharmacies but slightly higher.  Several people providing one box each would be extremely helpful.)

Note:  The school system is providing a supply of these items, but it is never enough.  The teachers have to buy extras out of their pockets.  Children forget their masks or their families can’t afford a new one every day.  Please donate as generously as you can.

Please drop off your donations in the Church Office, and they will be delivered to SJES.

Also…we still are collecting BoxTops4Education for SJES.  Drop those off in Church Office as well.
