WelcomeOur Mission: "To Share the Experience of God's Transforming Love"
I’m New Here
Thinking about visiting? Visiting a new church can be a bit unsettling. It is our hope that your first visits to Lakewood are pleasant and that you feel that you’ve “come home.” If you know you are coming to visit and have some specific questions, please email the church office at [email protected] and we will be happy to answer any questions. Our Welcome Team, located in the back of the church, will also make sure you get settled in when you arrive.
What about my children?
Lakewood UMC offers a full range of age-appropriate programs for children through Grade 12. Our caring staff and volunteers can direct you and your children and youth to their classrooms. During most worship services, children of all ages are invited to the front of the church to participate in a Children’s Message. The pre-Kindergarten (4 years), Kindergarten and First Graders are invited to follow the children’s leader to the Chapel for a child-friendly worship service. The other children may return to sit with their parents. The children should be picked up from the Chapel by t their parents to go to breakfast with their families after the 8:30 am service (see below). Please check out the children’s section of our web site for more information. Bethany Coleman, our director of Children’s Ministries, will be happy to make sure your child gets where he or she needs to go. You may contact her at [email protected] or call 904.733.8477.
What about the service?
Please relax and enjoy the service. Our service is different every week because we celebrate many worship styles. Please visit us more than once so you can get the full experience of our worship. We have many musical groups with different styles ranging from children to adults, who bring us wonderful, inspiring music every week. Our service lasts about an hour. We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of every month.
Where should I park?
There are guest spaces reserved for you at the south end of our campus in front of the Christian Activity Center. Turn into the road between the Church of Christ and Lakewood’s property. For additional parking, follow the signs to an area behind the Church of Christ, where you will see designated parking spaces for Lakewood . We may also park in the Winn- Dixie shopping center lot on Sunday mornings, located just north of the sanctuary. See the “Campus Map” for details.
What should I wear?
We encourage you to dress comfortably. You will see some folks dressed in their Sunday best, some in business casual and others in blue jeans. Just come comfortable.
After the 8:30 am service and before Sunday School
We have breakfast in the Christian Activity Center (the large building on the south side of our campus) from 9:30 to 10 am. We have coffee, egg, bacon and sausage biscuits, as well as homemade cinnamon rolls. If this is your first visit to Lakewood, please let the volunteer at the table know. Your breakfast will be free.
We have Sunday School for all ages beginning at 9:45 am. Please ask a member of the Welcome Team to help you select the right class for you. (Check out our Adult Sunday Schools in our worship section.)
Who We Are
If you’re looking for a church where you feel totally welcome and appreciated for just being yourself, then Lakewood United Methodist Church is the church you’re looking for.
It is a church of open hearts, open minds and open doors for people looking to connect, grow, serve and care through genuine Christian faith and a loving community.
Since 1953, when the church was founded, many have become a part of our family of faith. If you were to ask them why they attend, they would likely tell you it’s because they have found Lakewood to be a warm, loving body of believers. And they’ll also tell you they come because of our dynamic children and youth ministries. Still others may say they come to experience God on Sunday mornings in our joyful and uplifting worship services.
We invite you to come as you are…regardless of where you are in your faith journey. Come and see what God has for you at Lakewood.
We gather on Sundays for worship and on Wednesday evenings (Sept. – May) for a meal together and small-group studies. We have opportunities to serve inside the church and in the surrounding community.
There is a place for you here at Lakewood and we would love for you to visit us. Maybe you’ve tried church before and just didn’t connect. Come and give us a try . . . you just might find that our Lakewood family is the church home for you!
